ELC Bristol student Elif is preparing for a Masters at SOAS, University of London, in Migration and Diaspora Studies.
However, before moving to London, Elif wanted to perfect her problem areas in English. She choose ELC Bristol because it is “one of the best schools in the United Kingdom.”
Elif has learning difficulties including dyslexia and has credited ELC Bristol teachers as giving her more confidence.

Studying in Bristol during a pandemic
Since coming to Bristol, Elif has been enjoying exploring the city when she’s not busy studying. “Bristol is a really safe place. It’s completely different,” she said.
“We heard that here in the news that it’s not going very well in the United Kingdom, but actually Bristol is a safe bubble.”
Before arriving in the UK, Elif saw news about how the country is handling the Covid pandemic. However, she was pleased to discover that Bristol is controlling the virus and the city is slowly getting back to normal.
“We see it also in the streets, people are still taking measures, but it’s a vibrant city, pubs are open. There’s still life here, it’s really the place to come here at the moment.”
Elif has been staying in the Student Residence, just one minute walk from the school, St John’s House. She has made lots of friends who she hopes to stay in touch with when she moves to London. She describes the school environment as “a big friends group.”
More about Elif
Elif, who is from Belgium, explained that her degree is important to her due to her multicultural background.
“Diaspora means the integration into society of ethnic minorities and that’s quite interesting for me because my mother is from Turkey and my father is from Belgium so I have a multicultural background,” said Elif.
At just 20 years old, Elif already has a degree in Sociology and has ambitions to change the world. We can’t wait to hear about Elif’s adventures at SOAS, and wish her all the best with her future studies.
