A family-run English Language School in Bristol

Established in 1969, ELC Bristol is a family-run English Language School in Bristol, a lively university city in the South West of England.

ELC Bristol is the UK’s joint number 1 English language school, according to the EL Gazette rankings based on British Council inspectors’ publishable statements.

We offer intensive General English courses and Examination Preparation courses for the IELTS and Cambridge exams. We are a member of TEN (The English Network), IALC (International Association of Language Centres), English UK and Quality English and we are accredited by the British Council.

ELC Bristol was the first English language school in Bristol. The school is located in a fine old building, Abon House, which is close to the University of Bristol in Clifton, one of Bristol’s most attractive areas.

Our main school building is located in a large Victorian building directly across the road from St. John's House, our self-catering student residence

Summer Centre

During July and August, we open a summer centre in Clifton College, 10 minutes’ walk from Abon House. Students joining our summer courses may either study here or at Abon House.

The Teachers

All of our teachers are qualified native speakers, but maybe what is equally important is that they care a lot about our students.  They also have many years' experience teaching English (average: 21 years) and they have worked at ELC Bristol for a long time (average: 13 years). Read more.

Our Story

The English Language Centre Bristol (ELC Bristol) was founded in 1969. It was the first English language school in Bristol. Abon School was founded in 1973. John joined ELC Bristol as its youngest teacher in 1977. Read more.
