First Day Induction
On your first day at ELC Bristol, the test and induction process starts at 09.00. Please arrive at the English Language Centre at around 08.45. Please bring something to write with, good walking shoes, an umbrella just in case and your passport or ID card.
First, we introduce ourselves, check your personal details and then give you a test. During the test, a senior member of the academic team interviews you to see how well you speak and understand English.
The test has 100 multiple choice questions. We also ask you to write something about yourself.
After the test, there is a break when you can relax and meet some of the other students. During the break, a person selling sandwiches, cakes and other snacks visits the school, so if you are hungry, you can buy something to eat.
At 11.15 there is a 'Welcome Talk' by the Principal and Directors. You will then meet some of the admin team, the social programme manager and the Vice-Principal or Director of Studies. We aim to tell you everything you need to know in order to get the most out of your stay.
After the talks, we take you for a short walk around Clifton. We show you some of the main places of interest and then take you to a nearby café where you can get some lunch. Lunch will cost around £5, so please bring some cash with you.
We arrive back at school around 1.45 p.m. and we tell you where you need to go to start your class at 14.00.
Your first day at ELC Bristol during peak periods
On main starting dates and during the busy period from from the start of July until the end of August, the programme is a little different.
The Welcome Talks all take place after morning break. After lunch, you go for a longer walk around Bristol and you start your lessons the following day. The next morning, go to the school building nearest to where you live at 08.50. In the reception area, you will find a list with your name, your class and which building you are in.
