Young Adult Summer Courses (16 and 17)

Young Adult English Summer Courses at ELC Bristol

Our Young Adult Summer Courses at ELC Bristol are for students aged 16 and 17 who wish to study with us between the middle of June and the end of August.

During the summer months, our students aged 16 and 17 join our summer courses and all live in our sociable Young Adult Summer Residence on a half-board basis in en suite rooms.

Although our young adult students are mixed together in classes with our students over 18, they all live together in the residence with our students aged 16 and 17, so it's a great way to meet students from all around the world who are the same age as you. During the summer months the average age in the school is lower than the rest of the year and we usually have up to 65 students in school aged 16 and 17 out of a total of about 200 students.

There are 21 full hours of lessons each week during our English summer courses at ELC Bristol. During our Young Adult Summer Courses, we also offer 4 hours of optional supervised self-study and 2 additional hours of optional language activities. These may include Conversation Club, Job Club, Friday Film Club and guest speakers. To see more detailed information about the course structure, please click here.

As well as using our year-round building, 1 The Avenue, BS8 3HG, we also open an ELC Summer Centre (4-5 Worcester Road BS8 3JL). Students may study in any of our buildings during our English summer courses, depending on their level.

Accommodation

Our young adult students live in our Young Adult Summer Residence. You will have your own private room with a fully en suite bathroom and will live in a flat with other young ELC students aged 16 and 17, plus our Residence Managers, who are there to help and look after you and make sure you have a happy experience in the residence.

Each flat has a shared kitchen, where you may keep your own food in the fridges and can prepare your own lunches during the week or on weekends. There is free wifi internet access for you to use. The summer residence has a large student common room, where you can socialise, play pool or table tennis, watch TV, and relax with your friends. It is just 5 minutes' walk from the lively harbourside and also from Bristol's main city centre shopping area. It is 25 minutes from school on foot or an easy 10-minute bus ride away.

Food

ELC Bristol's Young Adult Summer Courses are organised on a half-board basis 7 days per week.

Breakfast is provided in the kitchens of your flats on a 'help yourself' basis. Requests for special food are given to the Residence Managers, who will try to order what you like eating each week.

Dinner is in a local international buffet restaurant, called ZaZa Bazaar. There is food from all around the world and it is an 'all you can eat' restaurant, so you can eat as much as you would like every evening.

Lunch is not provided, so you will need to bring pocket money for your daily lunch. We suggest up to £10 per day will be more than enough. We have a cafeteria in school and there are also many shops, take-aways and a supermarket within 10 minutes of school on foot. There are also many places near the residence where you can buy food at the weekend. You can also use the fridge and cooker or microwave in your flat in the residence to store or prepare your own lunch.

Social Life

ELC Bristol organises many interesting cultural, social and sporting activities, as well as weekend excursions as part of our summer social programme.

For our young adult students, there is a lively, sociable environment in the residence itself. There is a large common room area with games and comfortable chairs. Our young adult students often spend a lot of time there socialising as there is a nice, friendly environment. Games and activities are often organised there in the student common room.

You will also go for dinner every evening with all the other young adult students in the residence - a great to way to make friends with all our international students the same age as you.

Bristol is very lively in the summer and there are lots of music festivals and other events in the city, so it's a great time to come and do a summer course at ELC!
