To hire a car during your time in the UK, you need to have a valid driving licence and usually be over 25 years of age. If you have a non-EU driver’s licence, then you also need an International Driving Permit (IDP).

You will also be required to provide a form of ID such as your passport. Some car hire suppliers request that you take along examples of documents proving your address as well.

There are many different companies to choose from and the price may vary dramatically. Petrol/diesel is usually not included in the hire price and you are normally required to return the vehicle with the same amount of fuel as at the start of your rental. Always read the rental conditions to make sure you can meet the requirements set by the supplier. Check and compare suppliers as requirements will vary.

Remember to check the car carefully for any dents, scratches or faults and point them out to the car hire company before you drive the vehicle away. If not, you may be held responsible for any damage to the car.
