Cider is the most popular alcoholic drink in Bristol and the surrounding counties of Somerset and Devon. Did you know, until the 1970s, farmers were paid part of their wage in cider?! Thatcher’s Cider
Location: Myrtle Farm (about 1hr 30mins by bus from Clifton)
Cost: £18
Info: Guided Cider Tours run Tuesdays to Thursdays and last around 2hrs, including a cider tasting.

Hedger’s Cider
Location: Redhill (about 30mins by bus from Clifton)
Cost: Camping is usually around £10/night for tents.
Info: Here, you can camp in Hedger’s cider apple orchard, eating and drinking the produce from the farm in the Cider House. They have live music every other Saturday. Campsite is very basic – they are developing it slowly! No tours, but if you camp, you sleep with the cider apples!

Crossman’s Cider Farm
Location: Mayfield Farm, Weston super Mare (about 1hr 20mins by bus from Clifton)
Cost: Various (depends what you buy!)
Info: A traditional cider farm which sells you straight from the barrel – if you bring your own container, it’s cheaper! There are no tours here, but you can buy excellent local cheese and eggs too!

Rich’s Cider Farm
Location: Watchfield (about 3hrs by bus from Clifton – only 40mins by car)
Cost: Starts at £10 just for the tour
Info: Cider tours available, and a cafe/restaurant is onsite. Tours are on Wednesdays and last around 1.5hrs. Tours can be extended to include a pint of cider, a carvery, or a cream tea!

Wilkins Cider Farm
Location: Lands End Farm (about 3hrs by bus from Clifton – 50mins drive in a car)
Cost: You can taste the ciders for free, so long as you buy something when you leave!
Info: This is one of the most traditional cider farms left in Somerset – if you visit in the autumn, you will see the apples being delivered and pressed as you drink! You can buy cheese and jams/chutneys from the shop – the stilton is amaaaaazing!

Wild West Cider Farm
Location: Failand (about 1hr by bus from Clifton)
Cost: £20/person
Info: This is a vineyard AND an orchard! The tour is a Wine and Cider tour and focuses on the natural methods and organic farming and cidermaking techniques used by the owners. The tour is led by one of the two owners.

Info: A family farm which offers a cafe and restaurant alongside the orchards and cider presses.
