Choirs in Bristol

There are lots of choirs in Bristol who sing in various genres!

Joining choirs in Bristol is a great way to meet locals and practice your speaking skills, as well as your pronunciation, timing and rhythm!

There are more community choirs in Bristol than in any other city in the UK – you have a LOT of opportunities to sing in the city!  Read below to find out about some of the various choirs accepting new members in Bristol – Google will provide you with many more, these are just our favourites!

Some Voices Choir 

Location:  2 minutes walk from school at Alma Church 

Cost:  Free taster session available; £29/month after that 

Info:  A contemporary choir which you do not have to audition for, meeting on Mondays between 7pm and 8:30pm.

Bristol Folk House Choir 

Location:  Bristol Folk House (about 25 mins walk from Clifton, midway up Park Street) 

Cost:  £6/session 

Info:  No auditions required, no need to read music.  The choir covers mostly folk songs, but also some classical and contemporary music.  Meeting on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 9pm, term time only!

Riff Raff Choir 

Location:  Redland (also in Horfield, Southville and Fishponds on different days!) – about 30mins walk from school 

Cost:  £130/term; £32.50/month 

Info:  Classic and contemporary rock songs – runs term time only!  Meeting in Redland on Thursdays between 7:30pm and 9:30pm.

Bristol Choral Society 

Location:  Central Bristol (about 45mins walking from school) 

Cost:  £210/year (if you join mid-year, this cost is charged pro-rata) – concessions are available 

Info:  A more classical-style choir, where choral singing experience and reading music are helpful.  New members are invited to come along to some rehearsals before fully joining, to make sure it’s what you want.  Meeting on Wednesday evenings from 7:15pm until 9:30pm.

City of Bristol Choir 

Location:  Kingsdown (about 1hr by bus from Clifton) 

Cost:  £17.50/month 

Info:  You must audition, singing some scales and a piece you have prepared, as well as proving your music sight-reading abilities.  Meeting every Thursday from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.  The choir often have vacancies but sometimes they are full to capacity.

Bristol Phoenix Choir 

Location:  Whiteladies Road, Clifton (about 15 mins walking from school) 

Cost:  Free taster sessions available; £150/year (£75/year for ages 18-25) 

Info:  Classical music from both the past and modern times, with some operatic choruses too.  Meeting every Tuesday from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.  You can attend up to 4 taster sessions before an informal audition.

Bristol Choir Brigade 

Location:  Henleaze (about 30mins by bus from Clifton, about 45mins walk) 

Cost:  First session is free; £120/14 week term 

Info:  Pop songs – also offer a virtual choir (so you could continue singing after you leave Bristol!)  No auditions and the first session is always free.  Meeting on Wednesdays from 7:15pm until 9:15pm during term time.

Gert Lush Choir 

Location:  Redland (about 20mins walk from school) – also in Bishopston and Knowle 

Cost:  £35/student/term; £180/student/year 

Info:  Offer free taster sessions and do not audition – the cost of joining includes all three singing meet-ups, not just the one in Redland.

Gas Works Choir 

Location:  St. Werburghs and Gloucester Road (about 30mins-1hr by bus from Clifton) 

Cost:  £85/student/9-session term 

Info:  Meeting Monday and Tuesday evenings, fortnightly as a smaller choir and throughout the term as the whole choir.  No auditions and all levels welcome – tea break and biscuits included at the meetups!
