E-Learning
Welcome to ELC Bristol's e-learning programme. This service is free for our English Language Centre students.
Logging In
Your user name and password are your ELC reference number. Your number will start ELC and be followed by five numbers eg. ELC18119. We send you this number when you enrol.
Type that number into both the username and password sections of the log in box. This will take you to the e-learning site. Here you will be asked to change your password to something you can remember easily. You will also be asked if you want to link e-learning to your Facebook page. You can choose if you want to.
Why E-Learning
- You can start studying English before you come to Bristol, from the moment you enrol. You have free access while you are a student in the school and you can continue for three months after you have left.
- It gives you the freedom to do extra practice when you want and where you want!
- You can improve all your English language skills and you can focus on the areas you want to work on.
- You can work at any level.
- New materials are available every week.
- You choose how much you want to study - 30 minutes a week or three hours. It is up to you!
- You can practise for English language exams.
There are four sections of study materials. You can find them by clicking on the ‘Study’ tab at the top of the Guided e-learning page after you have logged in.
Flashpoint
- Interesting and up-to-date articles and stories with comprehension questions, vocabulary questions and vocabulary advice/support.
- They are all taken from real English websites so the language used is completely authentic.
- There is a new one every week or you can choose from all the past Flashpoints by clicking on the ‘By topic’ tab. Then you can select a subject you like and they will show you all the old Flashpoints in that topic.
Study Plan
- Practise your English with up to 9 units of lessons at your level. Each unit has 5 lessons which are about an hour long. You don’t have to do everything and you can return to the lesson later if you want and you don’t have to do the units in a special order.
- To find out what is in each lesson, hover over the title with the curser and you will get an outline of what’s in the lesson. If you click on it once, you’ll see a map of the lesson telling you which skills and language you’ll be practising. You can then decide if you want to do the lesson or not by clicking on ‘Start’ or ‘Close’.
- When you have chosen the lesson, the blue circles at the top of the page will tell you about the different parts of the lesson and you can click on the ones that you want to do or you can do the whole lesson.
Exam Practice
- Here you have the opportunity to practice exams like Cambridge English: First (FCE) or Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE).
- The main focus is reading, listening and the Use of English papers.
- You can also practise the Cambridge IELTS exam.
Assignments
- When you come to the school, your teacher may use this section to set you homework or to use in your classes.
Online study support and help:
On the Flashpoint and Study Plan pages there is help and support for you if you are having any problems with the site or you what to see the progress you’re making. Both Flashpoint and Study Plan have links to online dictionaries and image banks to support you if you’re not sure what a word means.
